Confessions of a Vellum Virgin

We may not look alike but by god is she the double of me!! When she is naughty I'm thinking to myself "yup I can see why she did that!" because I would have done exactly that at her age.....I don't need to second guess Georgia because I am one step ahead of her.....for now!!

I have only ever worked with vellum in classes, making pockets and adding little torn strips of it, (to be honest I didn't really like the stuff!) so when I received this beautiful page of vellum I was a bit stumped.....I decided to treat it like a normal page of 12x12 so I cut it, punched it and stitched the lace onto the edge. Then I used my craft knife to slice around the pattern so I could insert the crochet circle.

When I was making the layout I put a call out on Inspire Me for ideas and they came pouring in!! Click HERE for their inspiring answers.

I wish I had known then what I know now!! Had I been a bit braver I would have cut around the leaves and flowers and torn circles to make lollipop flowers, used offcuts to make see through buttons and made the good old pockets, then I could have made a layered page with other papers...but you live and learn especially with this hobby.
So I'm not entirely happy with this layout but it's finished and I can't go back on it now!! Next time I get my hands on some vellum of this quality it's going to be a whole different ball game!!

Lace and layers here I come...yeehaa!!
Love and vellum lollipops

oh Ruth it is so beautiful but can see why you want some more vellum to play with from the suggestions you received. Love the way you added the lace, stitched carefully around thanks for sharing. Kate x

what a gorgeous layout! It's always fun to find a new medium to work with but getting over the "new-ness" can be intimidating. Very cool that ladies gave you some ideas too!

That's beautiful.

I LOVE making tea bag folds with vellum, ideal for scrapbook page 'bellies and it really looks good - esp if you've embossed it using the CB folders or if you've swiped it with ink around the edges.

Heat embosses well too.

I like making flowers using a flower punch and then shaping the petals (as you do with decoupage) and colouring it by swiping with ink pad.
