A Vintage Affair moves to Ning

I would love to thank everyone who has taken part in A Vintage Affair and to all who have entered into the spirit of the site. The response has been awesome.

However my initial plan was to have somewhere with more freedom to upload photos and start different challenges and have members chat to each other....so I had a go at playing with Ning the other day and before you know it we have 3 new members!!

I still don't profess to being computer savvy and am struggling to get a vintage style skin onto the site as we speak!! I'm sure it will all get developed in time, however in the mean time if you would like to join us then please click HERE and start uploading your lovely layouts and cards. I know we would all love to see them.

A Vintage Affair Blogspot will remain in place hopefully as a link to Ning and probably to advertise Challenges.

I am going to kick start a really interesting challenge in May......we'll see about the prizes.....but scrapping is about fun and new friendships at the end of the day!!

So please come on over and get the party started!!

I don't normally do Blog giveaways here but this has to be one of the most generous ones ever!! Debbie only lives a county or so away from here so I almost feel like she is a local girl!!

She is giving away the products she frequently uses most ....me I'd just be happy to win the Martha Stewart punch ( do you think she'd split the winnings!!).Click HERE to see her blog and beautiful cards....

In honour of "World Green Day" I joined the rest of the scrapping community this week and recycled my Bubbly Funk kit box and created this distressed layout using acylic paints.

Mays Bubbly Funk kit is chocka block full of awesome vintage flowers and I used only 1 sheet on this layout. Great huh? That means there are loads more to come over the next few weeks!!

To discover exactly how I made it (fancy corners included too!) and if you wish to follow the step by step instructions simply click HERE.

Love and recycling for the good of the planet and your stash!

Waiting for the Blossom

We have the most beautiful blossom tree at the end of our road and every year I watch the seasons go by until that one special week when I can go out and photograph it. Unfortunately this year it was cloudy all week, yet everday we could see a change and the blossom soon started to fall. I quickly took this photo before the tree dropped too many petals.

Die Cut Paper from Making Memories, birdcage cut from Basic Grey Porcelain range, and matting paper from My Minds Eye. The hydrangers are from the florist and this cute laser cut wooden bird is from Gisella Graham. I adore her stuff she sells Xmas decorations to die for and these are from the Easter range. They just screamed "use me on a layout" when I sholud have been looking at eggs and bunnies!! I say "they" because I also bought a green one.

I have made a few hat pins recently. I couldn't get any proper hat pin stems locally so I bought a pack of dressmakers pins with the pearl heads and just added extra beads with glossy accents glue!

"Until next year oh beautiful tree we will wait not so patiently to pluck your laden boughs!!

Love and falling blossom petals

Warning- these papers will give you hayfever!!

My Bubbly Funk May kit has arrived and boy oh boy is it full of Vintage flowers!!!

The Brenda Walton Kay & Co papers are like 1940's wallpaper and 1950's dresses. There is a stack of paper flowers just like the ones I love working with so much, and all sorts of gorgeous chipboard embellishments, matting papers and tags! Yum...Yum...Yum!! I delved into my kit immediately and started sketching ideas onto the cardboard packaging incase I forgot and became distracted by the next item!

I just wish I had some cool photos of my Mum in some 1950's cabbage print dresses...unfortunately I don't:(. I remember my sister Sarah coming home from university in the 80's wearing one with her DM's and shaved head......if only I'd taken some photos back then.......ah well..at least I still have the memories!

Talking of photos I have been having trouble with my memory card this week so it will probably take me forever to get any layouts onto my blog.......my printer and I have not been on speaking terms for days now until this afternoon when we decided to make up. With a little help from Mark of course!! So hopefully tomorrow I can show you my latest find from a garden centre!

A Vintage Affair Challenge Blog

A very English Vintage Affair......

You may think I'm slightly mad, but as much as I adore the Norwegian scrappers I can't always read their blogs and sometimes the google translator gives me the most hillarious words!! As much as I'd love to join in with their challenge blogs I'd never be able to keep up.

So I have decided to have a go at setting up my own challenge blog called........

A Vintage Affair.

Each month there will be a challenge to either use a product, do a scraplift or follow a sketch. The only conditions are that it must be Vintage Style. It's that simple...just leave me a comment so that I can copy your layout and post it on the blog.

I'm hoping to set up a network of scrappers who can give each other hints, tips and ideas!!

I really don't know how this will work out and who knows if we get too big for Blogger then we'll just have to move to a bigger site!!

If you'd like to join in this adventure from the begining and I really hope you do then please come on over and introduce youself and we'll get linking together!!

Look at this beautiful first contribution..........If Loriete can do it so can you!!!

Love and sharing

Scrumptiously Sweet

Good morning today is Friday which can only mean one thing!! My turn to post a page at Bubbly Scrumptious!!

I made the above layout to demonstrate the window and lacing technique...some of you may remember a similar one I made last year with a much younger version of my sweet Ben.

To discover how I made the frame and the lacing simply click HERE and follow the instructions.

An update on my week:

I haven't had much time for crafting this week as it's been the school holidays but I have been very committed to taking my camera everywhere instead! I mean a girl can't scrap without photos and previous to the holidays I was feeling very low on decent photos, so I am pleased to say that I have managed to produce a couple of goodies which are being planned in my head as I type.......am also having fun with a Prima paintable today and can't wait to see how that turns out.......after the obligatory trip to a childrens play place this afternoon. Time waits for no man as they say but sometimes crafting just has to take a back seat, because the kids won't wait for Mum!!

Love and photo opportunities

Shock Horror I made a card!!

And a cute one at that!!! I admire and comment on so many Magnolia type cards that I guess it was inevitable I'd fall for their bewitching charm!!

I must admit that it is good fun colouring these in, unless of course you are at the last bit and then you put on too much ink!!

Oh well...it's the old adage practise makes perfect...and I sure need some practise!

Love and spillages

Faking it.......

Made with more yummy 12x12 paper from My Minds Eye Bella Bella Bubbly Funk kit, this layout of Ben and his Granny Brenda is really about the journaling....what me do journaling?
(Well I kind of had to once I'd put the 2nd tag on it.)

The title reads: Can You Just! .......because I am always saying to my Mother in Law..."Can you Just....." (Love ya Brenda x)

The journaling reads: "I love that you get what I do. You understand my passion for scrapbooking and all that comes with it!"

The top tag reads: Stand there, hold Ben, stop him wriggling, pose, stop him wriggling again smile!!

As this layout was part of my DT work I felt that everyone had to be able to achieve the embellishments on it. So taking inspiration from some other patterned paper in my stash I faked
the vine and some of the butterflies on the background paper.

To find out how to do a bit of faking!! Click on Bubbly Scrumptious and follow the instructions.

Wishing everyone the most wonderful Easter weekend. Mine is passing by in a blur of work, sleep and easter egg hunting!!

Love and chocolate faces

My Best Friend......

.....is like having a personal counsellor, she is like an Aunty to my children and not a day passes when we don't talk on the phone.

We recently celebrated her engagement and I quickly took some photos of us before going out for the night!!
I have made her this small canvas instead of an Easter Egg as a token of my appreciation for everything she does for me.
Love Ya Chrissie x

ps: Tomorrow is Good Friday and that means it's my day to show you this weeks creations over at Bubbly Scrumptious...you should check out the awesome vintage cards that were made this week by my DT colleagues......and off course check me out tomorrow!!

Ever just felt the need....?

Over at Bubbly Scrumptious this month the challenge is to make a felt bird.

I immediately said I was up for this because I just happen to have a wee collection of felt (I made felt hearts for my wedding favours). So I searched the net and came across Elly's blog myeverydaythings which I featured on Inspirational last week. I browsed around some etsy sites and decided these were my favourite style. I liked that I could use material too.

I knew then what had to be done...........Georgia had a hanging frame in need of a little TLC and the birds needed a perch!! So I combined my Laura Ashley fabric and some Tilda cut outs to match her bedroom.

I sketched a template to use as a pattern and spent an evening in with Gorden Ramsey whilst sewing them together!! It made a nice change to sit down and craft I get such tired feet standing all day and all evening.
I used Making Memories notelet paper for the background of the birdhouse side, and kept the Lovebirds side plain. A little bit of lace and some old and new buttons. Done ...(as Gorden would say!!)

So if you fancy joining in the challenge or just want some inspiration then click HERE for a bit of fun.
Love and a new felt fixation

Mum do all animals have babies in Spring?

Georgia is a little overly fascinated with the idea of all animals having babies in the spring.....many of our recent conversations seem to be around this subject. But then she throws me by asking "which ones don't?" Eeeeek you try to come up 101 answers to that ....um Humans....um......cats......um.....dogs.....um..um...um

Spring fever is definately in the air in my crafting mood at the moment!!

Remember I said there were more birds to come well I am sorry that I can only show you another sneak peek as all will be revealed on Bubbly Scrumptious tomorrow.

What I can tell you is that I have had my sewing kit out!!....duh..duh...dah.....

Love and happy nesting

Just hanging around.....

......................waiting for Easter like you do!!

I know I showed you my sneak peek in black and white but the weather was so awful on Thursday that I had to quickly take this shot outside to try to catch some light and the brick wall looks ghastly.......am so glad that my wallhanging actually looks quite pleasant in real life against the butter milk paint in my lounge lol!!

You can buy all of these gorgeous vintage My Minds Eye papers on their own from Bubbly Funk for as little as £10.50 or you can pop in the add on packs for £20.00.....the choice is yours!!
Hurry though because I can see that those Norwegian girls are rocking these papers too.

To find out how I made this and where I got the cute chicks from visit Bubbly Scrumptious and take a tour of the other designers creations whilst you are at it!

.....and while I am on a bird theme....check back tomorrow there are more birds to come!!
